One Word Film project
Summary of directions: In AICE media we created a short film representing a specific word, using various camera shots and editing techniques to enhance storytelling. In pairs, they will be assigned a word during class and brainstorm creative ways to convey it through images, sounds, and symbols. The goal is to develop a cohesive narrative lasting 60 to 90 seconds, focusing on storytelling rather than a montage.
My groups approach to assignment: Me and my partner got the word "hateful", we started by brainstorming ideas of what are project should be. We came to a decision, are project was about two seniors in high school, one being the bully, and they haven't seen each other since freshmen year. When the two individuals realized they had class together all the memories came back to them. Making a storyboard helped me and my group to visualize what our story would look like. This was ideal to creating this project at the best of our abilities. For this project we were supposed to edit on adobe premiere pro, however, due to issues at school we were allowed to use iMovie on our cellphones. This editing resource was very easy to use as a beginner, but it was difficult to blend clips together. This caused the film to seem more like a montage than a short film.

My one word film wasn't the best short movie but it was good for my first time editing and film producing. Capturing the perfect shots and angles was difficult, my group and I managed to figure it out after some practice. The idea of our project was very creative in my opinion, and we did a good job constructing it. I believe what made our project fall off was the editing, I never realized how important editing is, but its a crucial part the film making. On iMovie blending clips didn't work very well with adding an effect, the issue with adding an effect is it "dissolves" from one clip to another causing it to seem like a montage. With the experience my classmates and I have now, constructing another project like this should be a piece of cake.
